Description

Under the supervision of the Farm Manager, the Assistant Farm Manager supports day-to-day operations and upholds the organization’s vision of creating welcoming, productive, and diverse outdoor learning environments. Under the direction of the Farm Manager, the Assistant Farm Manager is responsible for various aspects of crop production, soil management, fieldwork, produce harvesting and distribution, farm-related record-keeping, and the care of equipment and infrastructure. With the Farm Manager, the Assistant Farm Manager serves as a steward of these sites. He welcomes a diverse range of individuals to engage with the organization’s work and mission. An Assistant Farm Manager will perform many tasks directly and facilitate, direct, and train individuals with varying degrees of farming experience, including students and outreach program participants. The Assistant Farm Manager, alongside the Farm Manager, is responsible for delivering outreach programs and services, including but not limited to Harvest Share, Farm Stand, and volunteer programs.

This work requires a beginner-level understanding of organic, sustainable, and regenerative growing practices, a high degree of professionalism, and strong management, organizational, and communication skills. A successful candidate must be capable of focusing on the day-to-day while also projecting and planning for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in day-to-day farm operations on site, including crop production, soil management practices, field work, and produce harvesting and marketing
  • Performs many tasks directly and also facilitates, directs, and trains individuals with varying degrees of experience to complete tasks effectively as a team
  • Maintains neat, detailed, and timely farm-related records and reports
  • Demonstrates care for equipment and facilities through executing or arranging regular maintenance and repairs
  • Demonstrates a high level of site and material organization and cleanliness at all times
  • Leads formal and informal tours of the farm for the general public
  • Serves as a leader and model for the Students, Interns, Apprentices, Volunteers, and Community Members practicing effective, fair, and balanced delegation of tasks and engaged supervision.

Duration and Compensation

This is a year-round, full-time position with a 3-month probation period. Competitive compensation package includes:

  • Compensation Range $40K-44k
  • Paid Health and Dental benefits
  • 22 Days of Paid Time Off at the onset of employment (prorated if not at the beginning of the year)
  • End of Year Winter Break
