GOOD SCHOOL FOOD
Launched in 2012 in partnership with Birmingham City Schools (BCS), Good School Food is a nationally recognized pre-K-12 education framework that results in academic engagement, economic mobility, healthier eating choices, and environmental stewardship. Through hands-on, food-based lessons that connect multiple subjects and align with state standards, students explore the relationships between food systems, environmental stewardship, health, and their community. Learn more about Good School Food.
YOUTH PATHWAYS & EXPERIENCES
JVTF’s Youth Pathways and Experiences (YPE) initiative offers Birmingham youth paid, work-based learning opportunities, training, enrichment experiences, and support services designed to help high school juniors and seniors explore and identify pathways to full-time employment or higher education. Learn more about YPE.
GOOD COMMUNITY FOOD
Good Community Food strengthens the Alabama food system by increasing food access, providing agricultural skills-based training, and sharing resources with urban growers and community gardens. Good Community Food programs include the Good Community Food Fellowship, free and reduced-cost community workshops, free seedling distribution, and free produce via JVTF farm stands. “Not only has La Cocina been the most important food organization in San Francisco, but amid a changing landscape, it might also prove to be the key for San Francisco to remain San Francisco.” – The San Francisco Chronicle
For 20 years, La Cocina has provided affordable kitchen spaces, training, resources, and community to talented entrepreneurs in the Bay Area. A culinary scene rich with foods inspired by the chefs’ birthplaces has emerged, giving strength to the city and its families, neighborhoods, and generations to come.
Jones Valley Teaching Farm is proud to partner with this organization dedicated to lifting up the community through culturally significant cuisine. We look to build a future in Birmingham with youth who have the tools to build food-based entrepreneurial pursuits.
