What do you teach when the ground is frozen?

logoIn the colder months, Jones Valley Teaching Farm brings education inside, but always connects student learning back to our  Farm Labs.  This winter, we introduced a series of nutrition kits with our Good School Food (GSF) partner schools. The kits, which are the newest addition to our standards-based educational products, are designed as mini-units for Pre-K – 5th grade students. Winter teaching can be a challenge when the ground is frozen and the weather isn’t suitable for growing, but we see the colder months as a unique opportunity to expand the nutrition education component of our work.

The lessons in the nutrition kit are aligned to health standards and allow for hands on activities that cover whole and processed foods, food groups, and basic information about the role of nutrients in supporting daily physical activities.
