FOOD Science & Engineering Competition

On January 18, 2013, Jones Valley Teaching Farm launched a competitive Online FOOD Science and Engineering [FSE] competition focused on local food systems and nutrition. The competition will provide 5th-8th grade Birmingham City School students the opportunity to explore and investigate their questions about food, moving them beyond the classroom walls to provide real solutions to real-world problems.  The online competition will be a first for Birmingham, and through it we hope to continue to push the importance of inquiry & investigation in curriculum, spark an entrepreneurial spirit, establish a sense of community understanding about local food and nutrition, and support Birmingham schools as they guide students’ educational improvement.
